Indian Railways has issued strict directives to curb littering across railway stations and trains, increasing the penalty for cleanliness violations up to Rs 1,000.

Under the revised guidelines, station managers, station masters, ticket collectors, and designated railway health inspectors have been empowered to enforce penalties directly on offenders.

Authorized vendors, hawkers, and passengers found throwing garbage, food waste, or plastic packaging in unauthorized areas will face immediate disciplinary fines. The initiative aims to enhance overall hygiene, improve travel comfort, and align rail infrastructure with nationwide cleanliness standards.
