Dodgers Sign Chadwick Tromp to Bolster Catching Depth on Minor League Deal.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a move to bolster their catching depth with the signing of veteran catcher Chadwick Tromp on a minor league deal.
Experienced Backstop Joins Comets
Tromp, who has spent time with both the Braves and Orioles in his career, will join the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets as part of the Dodgers' depth plan.
The move comes after recent setbacks and injuries to key backstops like Will Smith and Dalton Rushing, leaving the team searching for a steady hand behind the plate.
Tromp is known for his defensive skills and clubhouse presence, making him an attractive option for the Dodgers as they look to replace veteran backstop Chuckie Robinson.
“This is the first time in a while that Tromp signs with someone other than those two clubs,” noted Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors. “He’d yo-yoed between Baltimore and Atlanta on a series of minor league deals going back to 2021.”
Tromp will provide depth alongside rookie Eliezer Alfonzo for the big league catching duo, which has been without star backstop Will Smith due to a neck injury and primary backup Dalton Rushing with an elbow injury.
The Dodgers have been reshaping their catching depth in recent weeks, making changes that have seen some setbacks this season. With Tromp on board, they appear to be one step closer to regaining their championship form.
