Protecting Your ChatGPT Account from Hacking and Compromise Measures
As the use of artificial intelligence (AI) continues to grow, so do the risks of hacking and account compromise.
Protecting Your AI Accounts
To safeguard your accounts on popular AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, it's essential to understand how to identify and respond to suspicious activity.
One of the most critical steps is to use unique passwords stored in a password manager and enable multi-factor authentication (MFA), which adds an extra layer of security to your account.
ChatGPT and Perplexity offer MFA, while Claude relies on sending login links to email addresses instead. However, both platforms provide ways to check for suspicious devices logged into your account.
Checking for Suspicious Activity
To verify if someone has broken into your ChatGPT or Perplexity account:
- Open the platform on your computer's browser and click on your username in the bottom-left corner.
- Go to 'Settings' then 'Security and Login,' and finally click on 'Active Sessions.'
- If you see any unfamiliar devices, log out of that single device or click 'Log out all.'
For Claude, follow these steps:
- Open the platform in your computer's browser and click on your username in the bottom-left corner.
- Go to 'Settings' and click on 'Account.'
- In the 'Active sessions' section, check for any suspicious devices.
Resetting Your Password
If you suspect someone has broken into your account, it's crucial to change your password immediately:
For ChatGPT, log out of your account and click 'Log in' in the bottom-left corner. Enter your email address, click 'Forgot password,' and follow the prompts.
Perplexity users can reset their password by clicking 'reset your password' in the email they received after logging out of their account.
Remember to always use strong passwords and enable MFA to protect your AI accounts from hackers.
