Oil prices surged more than 2% per barrel on Monday after a month-long pause, as the US and Iran re-ignited their conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. The latest exchange came as the conflict entered its sixth month, with tensions escalating between the two nations.

Oil Prices Rise Amid Conflict

Brent crude gained $1.86, or 2.11%, to $89.96 a barrel, while WTI crude rose $1.60, or 1.92%, to $85.00 a barrel, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations.

The latest rise in oil prices came as the conflict in the Middle East continues to intensify. The US attacked an Iranian island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, prompting Iran to retaliate against US bases in Jordan.
