Kratos Creator Warns Amazon: Hire Writers Who Know the God of War Universe Inside Out
Christopher Judge, the actor who brings Kratos to life in the Norse Era 'God of War' video games, has expressed his concerns about the upcoming Prime Video series. During a recent Fan Expo Boston panel in August 2026, Judge shared his thoughts on the writing team for the show.
Judge has had a long-term association with the 'God of War' franchise, having played Kratos in the hit 2018 game and its successful sequel 'God of War: Ragnarok,' which was released in 2022. He succeeded Terrence C. Carson in the role, who voiced the character in the Greek Era of the franchise.
The Prime Video series is based on the Norse Era games that Judge worked on, but he feels that Amazon has not hired any writers who have experience with the games. 'What are you thinking? These guys have been immersed in this world for 20 years. But someone's going to know better?' Judge said during the panel.
It is worth noting that Amazon has not officially announced its writing team for the series, although Judge appears to have some inside knowledge about the writers room. The creator of the series is Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on 'Battlestar Galactica,' a sci-fi show with an impressive track record.
Cory Barlog and Yumi Yang of Santa Monica Studios are serving as executive producers on the series. Judge's comments about the writing team come at a time when the role of Kratos is expected to be recast due to Ryan Hurst's injury during filming.

Hurst was originally cast as Kratos in the Prime Video adaptation, but he suffered an injury while performing a stunt and will need surgery. With his recovery time likely to be lengthy, the 'God of War' series will have to find a new actor to play the lead role.
Judge has expressed his desire for the show's writers and developers to receive the recognition they deserve. He also clarified that he is too old to play Kratos in the series, but hopes that the new actor will be able to capture the character's essence.
Judge will reprise his role as Kratos in the upcoming game 'God of War Laufey' in a cameo capacity, and he is expected to star in another 'God of War' game after that. Reports suggest that Dave Bautista is in talks to take over the role of Kratos in the 'God of War' series.
Judge has also had experience with live-action roles, most notably as Teal'c in 'Stargate SG-1,' one of the best sci-fi shows streaming on Prime Video. However, he made it clear that his recent comments are not about him, but rather about the importance of getting the writers and developers right.
With the 'God of War' series set to premiere soon, fans are eagerly awaiting its release. Judge's comments have added an extra layer of excitement to the anticipation, as fans look forward to seeing their favorite character brought to life on screen once again.
