The new service will operate as Train number 26407/26408 Jammu Tawi-Srinagar-Jammu Tawi Vande Bharat Express. This is in response to a popular public demand for an additional travel option, according to Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.

Currently, two Vande Bharat trains are operating between Jammu and Srinagar, with four services running daily. The new service will provide passengers with another route choice, reducing travel time and increasing the overall capacity between the two cities.

The Vande Bharat Express has been a successful initiative for Indian Railways, providing high-speed connectivity between major cities in India. The first Vande Bharat train was introduced on June 6, 2025, and was initially run between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar.
