Freight trains will soon bypass Patna following official safety clearance for a new rail track in Bihar. The Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) approved train operations on the 20-km Neora-Jatdumri railway line. The decision came after an official inspection and a successful speed trial at 120 kmph on October 8.
This newly cleared section is part of the larger 42-km Neora-Daniyawan project. It falls under the Danapur Division of the East Central Railway (ECR) zone. The new route will allow freight traffic to run without entering the busy Patna network.
The railway administration built the Neora-Daniyawan line in two distinct phases. Workers finished the first phase covering the 22.74-km Jatdumri-Daniyawan section earlier, and train services run there already.

The second phase covered the remaining 20-km stretch between Jatdumri and Neora. "The remaining 20-km Jatdumri-Neora section has now undergone the CRS inspection. Following the inspection, the CRS granted approval for train operations after confirming compliance with the prescribed safety standards.
The CRS inspection included a speed trial at 120 kmph on October 8," the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) said.
Officials built one new station named Gonpura along this fresh corridor. The line also features three new halt stations: Adhpa, Chamachak, and Wajidpur. Neora station connects to the Patna-Ara route, while Jatdumri station sits on the Patna-Gaya section.

The completed link includes significant transport structures. Engineers built three major bridges and 16 minor bridges along the track. The section also holds five Limited Height Subways (LHS) and two Road Over Bridges (ROBs).
In addition, teams built one Rail Over Rail (ROR) structure and 12 Road Under Bridges (RUBs).
Once fully operational, freight trains will bypass Patna through Neora, Daniyawan, Biharsharif, Barbigha, Sheikhpura, and Kiul. Indian Railways considers the Danapur-Patna-Kiul-Jhajha line heavily congested. That 187-km stretch forms a major part of the Delhi-Howrah main line, and shifting freight will relieve severe traffic bottlenecks.
