Alan Ritchson prefers keeping Reacher on TV over film adaptation.

Alan Ritchson, the star of Prime Video's highly acclaimed 'Reacher' series, has made it clear that he prefers keeping the action hero on TV. Speaking exclusively with Men's Journal in 2025, Ritchson addressed the possibility of playing Reacher in films, stating that he enjoys the format of the show and believes eight episodes are the perfect amount of time to break out a book.

Why TV is Right for Reacher

Ritchson explained that he doesn't think films would do justice to the source material, citing the ability of television to weave in multiple storylines throughout the year. He also mentioned that he likes being able to explore different characters and plotlines through various episodes.

Interestingly, Ritchson's preference for TV over film is a departure from the movie franchise's past attempts at adaptation. The 2012 film 'Jack Reacher' starring Tom Cruise received mixed reviews, and despite praise for its action sequences and Cruise's performance, neither the film nor its sequel generated enough momentum to keep the franchise going.

Director Christopher McQuarrie had previously discussed making a darker, grittier 'Jack Reacher' movie with Tom Cruise. However, plans for a new film have not materialized publicly since Prime Video's 'Reacher' began airing in 2022.

Ritchson remainswith keeping the action hero on TV, and fans can look forward to 'Reacher' Season 4 and the upcoming spin-off show 'Neagley.' With its engaging storylines and well-developed characters, it's clear that Ritchson's decision to stick with TV is the right one for this beloved series.
