"Literally the greed they talk about in the Bible," said Steam reviewer Xukaku, who is part of the growing community of users taking to Valve's review system to express their discontent.
Players have reported a range of performance issues, including long-standing bugs from the original game and new glitches. AI used to upscale certain unit cards in the game is also being criticized. With many saying it looks like it was made by hand.
One example of the AI art issues is the transformation of a mustached warrior on horseback from the original game into a Stormtrooper helmet in the remaster. Other comparisons have also been unflattering, with some art pieces featuring six-fingered hands.
The original Total War: Shogun 2 has been delisted from the Steam store, leaving players who already own it with limited options. The developer has charged $10 extra for the remaster. Which sits at an overwhelmingly negative rating on Steam with just 19% of the 677 reviews being positive.
