Goa's Majestic Pride group faced its first major challenge as director Srinivas Nayak, who runs the offshore and onshore casinos in Goa, survived a gun attack outside a hotel in Porvorim near Panaji on Friday night. Two armed assailants fired gunshots at him, but he managed to escape unharmed thanks to his bodyguard's quick response.

The incident occurred as Nayak was leaving the office premises to get into his car. According to the director, two people who had been waiting outside suddenly opened fire at him, firing 3-4 gunshots. Fortunately, Nayak's bodyguard retaliated and fired 3 rounds, forcing the assailants to flee.

Firing Outside Hotel, Recce of Movements

Nayak said that he did not want to speculate on the motive for the shooting and jeopardize the police investigation. He added that he had not received any threats in the past and did not have any rivalry with anyone. The police are currently investigating the incident.

The preliminary probe suggests that the shooters were from outside the state and had been hired for the killing. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said this was the first such incident during his tenure, and he assured that those involved in the incident will be arrested at the earliest.

The police are conducting an extensive investigation into the incident. Police said they were looking into all possible angles and trying to identify the shooters.

The FIR has been registered against two unknown accused under Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder) and 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), read with Sections 3/5 of the BNS and Section 3 of the Arms Act.

Motive Unknown, Police Investigation On

The reason behind the attack is being investigated, and police assured that no one will be spared. The incident has sent shockwaves in the industry, and Majestic Pride group's reputation is at stake.

Nayak said that he usually leaves for home after 8 pm. He added that he had not received any threats in the past and did not have any rivalry with anyone. The director stated, ‘I do not want to speculate on the motive for the shooting and jeopardise the police officers inquiry.

I have recorded my statement, and police are investigating.’

‘However, further considering the immediate and imminent threat to the life of the complainant, his bodyguard, who was present with the complainant, fired three rounds in response for the purpose of protecting the life of the complainant. The act of openly firing’.
