Indian Film Industry to Spend $500 Million on Global Promotion with Ramayana Release
India's film industry has long been a subject of fascination for many, with its rich history and cultural significance. However, in recent years, there has been a growing concern about the rising costs of producing films.
Clarification from Yash
Bollywood star Yash recently clarified the budget for his upcoming film Ramayana, which is expected to be one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. The film's producer, Namit Malhotra, had claimed that the two-part film has a budget of $500 million or ₹4000 crore.
However, Yash clarified that this figure includes not just the production costs but also release and promotion expenses. He explained that the 'Hollywood math' behind this approach is to spend equally on the film itself as well as its global promotion.

'Cinema is a soft power,' Yash said in an interview. 'We have to take Indian cinema global, or else other film industries will take advantage of us.' He added that he believes both Ramayana and Toxic are attempts to position Indian cinema as a global phenomenon.
Yash plays the antagonist Ravana in the two-part Ramayana films, alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi. The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and also features a large ensemble cast, including Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, and Kunal Kapoor.
The film's release date has been set for November 6, ahead of Diwali. Yash will also be seen in Geetu Mohandas' Toxic, a gangster drama that releases on August 26.
