4 Decades Later, Green Day Is Still Chasing Their Pre-Fame High With ‘Nimrods’
But the Green Day movie is not a biopic. It’s not a concert film nor a documentary. Instead, the Green Day movie is a mostly fictional story about what it feels like to be a Green Day fan and what it once felt like to be Green Day themselves. It’s about Green Day vibes. And, as the band themselves tell it, that’s exactly what they wanted a Green Day movie to be. “[We’ve had] a lot of discussion over the years, actually,” drummer Tré Cool says about the band’s desire to make an honest-to-god narrative feature. “We put out Bullet in a Bible as a concert movie, [so] we probably didn't want to do another concert movie. We feel like we're still at it, recording and touring, so it's not time for a retrospective documentary. So we might as well have fun and use some of the stories of our past in a fun, fresh way.”
