The One That Got Away: U2 Never Appeared on ABCs Beloved TGIF Lineup
In the late '80s and '90s, ABC's Friday night lineup was a staple of American television. The network ran a popular promotional block called TGIF, which featured hit sitcoms like "Boy Meets World".
One notable event that never came to pass was a planned crossover between U2 and the show. In 1997, rock legends U2 were scheduled to appear on TGIF, but they pulled out at the last minute due to stage fright.

The mastermind behind TGIF, Jim Janicek, recalled the events leading up to the cancellation in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. According to Janicek, ABC had planned a live promo event featuring U2's PopMart Tour, with "Boy Meets World" star Danielle Fishel anchoring the broadcast.
