Thousands of workers and supporters from across the political spectrum gathered in Delhi on Monday to march towards the Supreme Court. Demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The opposition, led by Congress, has been protesting against Kumar's alleged arbitrary actions and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, which they claim are aimed at disenfranchising certain groups of voters.
"all protests (against Kumar) are part of just one protest" said Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, in a press conference earlier in the day. "There are no parallel protests, there is one protest. We do not care who you are, which formation you come from.
If you are protecting the Constitution, as we are. we are with you, we will support you, we will help you, we will protect you. And, we expect the same from you."
The opposition'It was protest is the latest in a series of street demonstrations against Kumar's actions. Which have been criticized by several Election Commissioners.
An investigation by The Indian Express found that two Election Commissioners have objected on record to poll panel steps 14 times in 10 months. Citing concerns over the arbitrary arrest of students, closure of metro stations, and cancellation of trains.
A joint petition has been filed at the Supreme Court, seeking the resignation of Kumar and the scrapping of the SIR. The petition, signed by several opposition leaders. This includes Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, and Mamata Banerjee, alleges that Kumar's actions are aimed at undermining the democratic process and disenfranchising certain groups of voters.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has declined to meet with opposition leaders. Officials stated that the issues raised by them are already sub judice before the Supreme Court. However, Gandhi has claimed that 200 government officials are in touch with his side, providing information on the government's actions.
"People are being stopped from reaching Delhi. Trains, buses are being stopped. Delhi has been converted into a fortress.

Why is Delhi in jail?" Gandhi asked, highlighting the government's alleged attempts to restrict the opposition's movement.
"This is like Shiva’s dance and anyone can join Shiva’s ‘baraat’ (wedding procession)," Gandhi said, emphasizing the unity of the opposition against Kumar's alleged actions.
The opposition's protest is set to continue, with Gandhi vowing that the fight will not stop until Kumar resigns. "We are not going to stop," he said.
