Bollywood Stars Face Backlash for Pan Masala Ads

Sunny Deol has spoken out about his stance on pan masala advertisements, stating he would never associate himself with them. The comments come as Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff have received a notice from the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for allegedly promoting pan masala products.

In a recent conversation on YouTube, Deol discussed his approach to brand endorsements and why he has often turned down offers to promote products he doesn't believe in. One of these is pan masala ads. He said, “I don’t do pan masala ads and I won’t do them even if I get the chance. I wouldn’t do any of those things. A person gets offers but chooses not to participate. I don’t want to promote something that doesn’t align with my values.

Deol linked his decision to avoid pan masala ads to his personal principles and shared that he has consistently applied these principles in other aspects of his career. He revealed that there are certain things he has refused to do simply because they go against his conscience. “There are many things I don’t do because my conscience doesn’t allow it, and the ones that need to be done, I will do them,” he said.

Deol’s comments have come at a time when Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff are being questioned The three actors had appeared together for this campaign, which is associated with pan masala products.

The FDA has issued a show-cause notice to the trio, stating that the campaign could amount to surrogate or indirect promotion of prohibited pan masala or tobacco-related products. They have given them 15 days from the date of receipt to submit a written explanation. The FDA warned that if no explanation is received, or if the explanation is found to be unsatisfactory, further action may be taken under applicable law.

Deol’s latest film, Batwara 1947, has been receiving mixed reviews from both audiences and critics.
