Bengal Actor Jeet Declines Pan-India Release for Freedom Fighter Biopic
Bengal actor Jeet gained popularity with his web series Khakee: The Bengal Chapter last year. His recent release Keu Bole Biplobi Keu Bole Dakat, based on freedom fighter Ananta Singh’s life, arrived on Independence Day in West Bengal. Despite its success in Hindi and the pan-Indian concept of the film being widely accepted, Jeet decided not to release it across India.
“We wanted a local connection for this story, so if it performs well here, we might consider a wider release. The data from recent years suggests that films released as pan-India haven’t performed well. South films struggle to penetrate the North, and their impact isn’t as wide-reaching. This means the concept of pan-India films is losing its appeal,” Jeet explains.
Playing Ananta Singh was a significant opportunity for Jeet, who got to portray nine different aspects of his life on screen. Before Jeet, Ananta had been portrayed twice in Hindi films – Maninder Singh in Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey (2010) and Jaideep Ahlawat in Chittagong (2012). However, Jeet didn’t draw inspiration from these films.

Jeet felt a strong connection to the relatability of the revolution during the fight for freedom in the 1900s and today. “Ananta’s revolution is still relevant today, and every generation can relate to it because revolutions never truly end. We’re fighting our own battles at home, while once we were slaves to others. Now, we’re not slaves That’s history, that’s our foundation. If it weren’t for that, we wouldn’t be here today,” he says, sharing his advice for the youth.
While Khakee brought Jeet a lot of love, he hasn’t announced any new Hindi projects yet. When asked why, he replies, “I’m grateful for all the appreciation I received from everywhere, but I believe in destiny and what comes to me is written. I never even chased Khakee; it just got made into a Bengal chapter and came to me. Whatever is written for me in the future will reach me,”
