Bruno Mars Breaks His Historic Tie With Kendrick Lamar

Bruno Mars’s “I Just Might” holds at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a twenty-third week, becoming the second-longest-running leader in the ranking’s history. The 'The Romantic' single moves ahead of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which ruled for 22 frames, while Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” remains the record-holder with 31 turns at the summit.

For the past year, Kendrick Lamar has claimed not only the longest-running No. 1 on Billboard’s most competitive ranking of hip-hop songs in America, but the two sturdiest champions of all time. He shared that spotlight with his frequent collaborator and friend SZA, and while the two remain in first place, Lamar now drops away from the second rung on the all-time ranking.

Bruno Mars, one of the biggest pop stars of all time – who has also become hugely successful on hip-hop and especially R&B rosters in the United States – passes Lamar’s Grammy-winning smash with one of the top hits of 2026.

“I Just Might” is steady at No. 1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this week. The ranking, published weekly by Billboard, lists the most popular R&B and hip-hop tunes in the U.S., and the tally is built using a combination of streaming, sales and radio activity. As of this frame, Mars’s smash has now spent 23 weeks in the top spot.

“I Just Might” is now the second-longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs ranking. Just last week, it shared that distinction with Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” as both tunes had managed 22 frames in charge. Now, “I Just Might” moves ahead, pushing “Not Like Us” down to third place on the all-time tally.

Lamar still claims the longest-running No. 1 ever on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. He and SZA debuted “Luther” on the list in 2024, and the collaboration ultimately ruled for 31 frames between that year and 2025.

“I Just Might” is still performing extremely well months after its release, but it will have to hold atop the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs ranking for roughly another two months before it can match – and then perhaps even pass – “Luther.”

The past several weeks have been huge for “I Just Might.” In the span of about a month, the hit has tied and then broken its newly-formed matches with several of the longest-running No. 1s in Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs history. That roundup includes “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus (20 weeks), SZA’s “Kill Bill” (21) and the aforementioned “Not Like Us,” which stopped after its milestone 22.

“I Just Might” is also steady at No. 1 on the Hot R&B Songs rundown at the moment – the only other Billboard chart where it still rules. The single has now racked up a total of 30 frames in charge of the ranking.

“I Just Might” lives on 12 Billboard charts this period, and it drops on nearly half of them. Despite those declines, the smash still holds within the top 10 on most of the rankings where it appears.

The single remains especially successful at radio, as it sits inside the top 10 on the Radio Songs, Pop Airplay, Adult Contemporary and Adult Pop Airplay charts. It also continues to rank well on several R&B-only lists. Also this week, “I Just Might” returns to the Digital Song Sales ranking at No. 21, becoming a bestseller once again.
